Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you an update on some of the things we've been working on for Unto the Breach, what's up next on the plate, and basically just give you an idea of how the development process is coming along.
- Since the demo was released, we've been focusing on the content after the first mission in Doramor. The second mission will take you south to Kunskaborg, the capital of Saernis, where you'll be responsible for rescuing Dendrin, who's been kidnapped. Kunskaborg is approximately four times the size of Doramor City, and is split into four separate sections, the Lower, Upper, Merchant, and Royal Quarters. Most of the major cities yet to be encountered in Unto the Breach will have multiple sections to them, to better give a sense of scale. Of course, there'll be plenty more to do in these cities too, other than just use them as bases of operation and occasional settings for plot development.
- We've also been focusing on a lot of technical issues and limitations that were identified with the demo. Some of the recent changes implemented include changes to the menu system you access when you hit ESC. We've removed the step counter box, and added boxes which tell you your location and the number of monsters you've successfully killed over the course of the game. Expect an on-going side quest involving that kill counter and rewards from the Mercenaries' Guild when you reach certain milestones. Work is also underway to further improve the flow of information to make things easier to understand, and we've switched the game's primary font to make it look better. Additional features being worked on for the game will also include things like a volume adjustment option, increased disparity in the difficulty options (i.e. Easy will actually be easy), further refinement of the combat system, and more original content. Speaking of which...
- Our character artist is continuing work on some official character art, rather than the placeholders you see in the demo. Expect some more information on that. The monster artist should be completing some pieces soon as well.
- The script we worked off of for the demo was mostly written a couple years ago and was pretty much a rough draft (though what you saw in the demo was after considerable revision), so Brian's going back and re-writing the whole thing pretty much from scratch, especially given how much his writing ability has (probably) improved since then (hooray for college!). Currently it's about 25% done, and will probably be a full 120-130 pages long printed out, and there WILL be voice acting for most of the game.
- We've also got a new website in the works! The current one is largely a template we used to get things started, but Marc is working on a brand-new one that'll definitely be way cooler. To get an idea of what he can do, check out his main website at http://www.landscapingscene.com
- So, here's a quick rundown of what should be getting done in the next 1-2 months:
We look forward to unveiling more details on these new features in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
