We've added a FAQ regarding Unto the Breach! Read below to learn more about the game!

Q: What is Templar Games?

A: Templar Games is a small studio dedicated to creating high-quality video games and other entertainment media set within a richly detailed universe. Templar Games is primarily composed of several college students working on the Unto the Breach project in their spare time, and isn't a full-time game studio like some projects. While this limits the time and resources we have, we remain dedicated to making quality products. Templar Games is led by Brian Hudson, the self-appointed "Grand Marshall" and some guy with some crazy ideas.

Q: What is Unto the Breach?

A: Unto the Breach is a PC-based RPG (Role-Playing Game), styled after the classic RPGs found on the SNES and SEGA Genesis consoles. Its setting is primarily fantasy, though some elements of sci-fi permeate it, as it’s set in the future after the collapse of an interstellar civilization. You can download a playable demo here!

Q: What are the system requirements?

A: The requirements are very low, due to the graphical simplicity of the game and the software it’s being created with. The minimum requirements are as follows:

CPU: Pentium M or higher

RAM: 512 MB of RAM or higher.

HDD: Approximately 50 MB of hard drive space is needed for the demo, we're not sure how much room the full game wil ltake.

Graphics: A GeForce 5200 or higher video card.

Sound: Any sound chip capable of DirectSound audio.

Basically, if your system was made in or after 2005, it will be able to play Unto the Breach without issue.

Q: How are you making Unto the Breach?

A: The game is being created through the program RPG Maker XP, which is published by Enterbrain. We are also using Adobe Photoshop for some of our graphical work, but the bulk of the work involved in making Unto the Breach is being done with RPG Maker XP.

Q: What’s the setting?

A: Unto the Breach is set on the world of Terranis, a moon in a remote system that was cut off from the wider galaxy due to an invasion of a demon-like alien race called the Great Enemy. The humans of Terranis lost most of their technology in the fighting, and so they rely on more basic implements, such as swords and armor, to protect themselves from the monsters that are still present.

The game is set in the year AF (After Fall) 1016, just over a millennium after the original invasion of the Great Enemy. The different countries of man have established some semblance of peace, but the Great Enemy is still present, killing the innocent and corrupting all they touch.

Q: Who are the main characters?

A: The main character is Alex Girard, a young mercenary. His home village was attacked by monsters and, despite his training, he was too inexperienced to make a significant contribution to the defense. Troubled by this, he leaves home with his best friend, Conrad DuGalle, to travel the world and gain more experience. He also leaves home to track down his romantic interest, Mileena LeGuin. Mileena left home a year prior to start her own mercenary company, and Alex has barely heard from her since then.

Along the way, Alex and Conrad recruit more fighters to their cause. By the time Unto the Breach starts, Alex and Conrad are joined by Lucy Nakata, a mage, and Ali Giseroux, an acrobat. Later in their adventures, they’ll be joined by Dendrin Jourengeld, a noble-born wizard; Marie st. Claire, a cleric; and Sophie Kalomar, a paladin. Together, they undertake a series of missions which uncovers a dire threat to all of Terranis.

Q: What are the controls like?

A: The controls are fairly simple. The arrow keys move your character around the world, Enter and ESC act as selection and cancel buttons, respectively. By default, the Q and W keys act as your shoulder buttons, which have different functions. If you have a gamepad, you can play the game with that instead, which we recommend. Pressing F1 also brings up system options, including re-assigning buttons.

Q: Does Unto the Breach require previous experience with RPGs?

A: Not at all! We’ve been building the game with players that have never playing RPGs before in mind. The combat system is turn-based, so no rapid button-mashing is required. We've also implemented a difficulty system, so casual and hardcore RPG players alike can adjust the game to their preferences. To help you learn the intricacies of Unto the Breach, we recommend visiting the Mercenaries Guild hall in the northwest part of Doramor City at the start of the game to receive training and tutorials.

Q: How long will the game be?

A: We’re still fairly early in development, so we’re not entirely certain exactly how long the game will be, but we estimate it will be between 15 and 25 hours in length.
