Bio/personality: Ali was raised as an orphan in Jorandek, having no idea who her true parents are, a situation all too common in port cities which form the stopping off point for countless travelers. She was discovered alone at a young age by an acrobat of a theater troupe based in the city, who took her into the care of the entire troupe.

As a young child, she was initially tasked with simple chores, fetching items for performers, cleaning, and other basic tasks. Several of the senior members of the troupe took the time to teach her to read and write, and give her a basic understanding of the world she lived in, but the demands of a constant performance schedule ensured she was never able to actually attend a regular school, having to buy books and study on her own.

As she grew older, she was able to begin training as an acrobat herself, and demonstrated considerable performance with the gymnastic arts, growing increasingly skilled with performing all manner of flips, rolls, and other daring stunts. Before long, she was performing on stage, mastering increasingly complex and dangerous stunts.

Usually unsupervised by the older troupe members outside of stage practice, and growing increasingly motivated by a sense of adventure and thrill-seeking, Ali began practicing her craft in the city at large, leaping across rooftops and navigating alleys with ease. She also began taking to occasional acts of pickpocketing, frequently stealing the pouches of cutpurses who had themselves just stolen the purses of regular citizens. If petty thievery failed to entertain her in a given week, she would often head to a tavern in search of a random brawl, easily using her agility to defeat drunks twice her size.

She is outgoing and friendly, but, since she’s never really known anyone outside of the troupe, Ali has trouble committing to relationships. To be tied down in any way other than a performance schedule seems anathema to her, something she seems to have little desire to change. Despite this, those she considers her friends have her absolute loyalty, and she will spring to their defense in an instant, no matter the circumstance.

Her life took a sudden change, however, when one day she lifted the necklace of a mage walking the streets of Jorandek, and then, later that evening, attempted to pick a fight with a towering mercenary a foot taller than her. Despite being clearly drunk and wearing full plate armor, the mercenary was still more than a match for Ali’s skills, and landed a solid blow on her with his fist, knocking her over, and spilling the contents of her pouch, which included the necklace she stole.

Suddenly, the mage she stole the necklace from appeared in the crowd, claiming the necklace was hers. A second mercenary appeared next to the mage, and took the necklace back before helping Ali to her feet. The mercenary identifies himself as Alex before he, the first mercenary, and the mage “escort” Ali to their room.

Ali apologized for stealing the necklace, and Alex threatened to turn her in to the authorities, when Ali asked if she can join them. Surprised, Alex asks why. Ali explains that she had NEVER lost a bar fight before, and was just being a thrill-seeker. She promised not to steal from them again, and wanted to go with them, so she can learn to be a better fighter, and knock Conrad out some day.

Alex laughed, and, after some discussion, the three agreed to take Ali with them. She said farewell to the troupe the next day, and continued on with them eastwards, across the Middle Sea, to Doramor.

In-game role: Ali is a rogue, plain and simple. She’s the only character that dual-wields, so you need to remember to buy two knives for her whenever you want to upgrade. Since she attacks twice with her melee, it means her damage is a little more spread out, so, if the first hit kills a monster, the second hit will go against the next one. Also, if one misses, the second one probably won’t miss. All the monsters fall into a category of what they are, whether beast, undead, or whatever else. As Ali levels up, she gains skills, one which is effective against each type of monster, giving her powerful attacks that exploit the weaknesses of monsters. She can also steal from them, and is your only means of guaranteed escape from battle.
